SMC (Sheet Molding Compound)
SMC is an abbreviation of Sheet Molding Compound. It is a composite molding material on a sheet which has no stickiness and excellent moldability by impregnating the glass chopped strand to a compound which is made by mixing unsaturated polyester resin with filler, catalyst, release agent, etc., and by reinforcing and chemically increasing viscosity. SMC is used for construction and automotive. There are ceiling materials, ceiling tiles for bathrooms, and water tanks for buildings, and battery cases, spare tire wheel wells, luggage doors, and tailgate lids for automobiles. In particular, production of battery cases using SMC materials is expected to increase further in line with the increasing commercialization and sales of environmentally friendly vehicles (electric cars, hybrid cars).
